The History of the Cross
In December 1693, the two sailors and Adam Neundlinger John Kräml "at large of ice water and hergeronnenem" wood from the Danube caught, they garnered a rather large and heavy wooden cross to the mainland. 1701 ordered the then Bishop of Passau, Cardinal Johann Philipp Graf von Lamberg, an, dass das Kreuz in die St.-Johannis-Kapelle (jetzt Pfarrkirche) zu bringen sei. Der hochw. Herr Johann Albrecht Josef, Freiherr von Oedt, Pfarrer in Hartkirchen, hat am 4. Juni 1701 diesen bischöflichen Auftrag ausgeführt. Seither prangt dieses geschichtlich bemerkenswerte Kreuz, von einem Strahlenkranz umgeben, bis zum heutigen Tag über dem Hochaltar. Kreuz und Strahlenkranz sind allerdings schon sehr reparaturbedürftig.
Möge allen Besuchern und Wohltätern dieses Gotteshauses das "Donaukreuz" ein Zeichen des Segens sein!
