Und eckige Klammern are comments by me [NB d. Ü] :-)
Voilà.

The law, which bans the euthanasia of pets comes into force
It seems that the attempts to fully protect the rights of animals advance in our region [Catalonia] really moving forward bit by bit. The law requires that the owners of pets obliged them to use a chip and register their

Im Landkreis Berga there is only one shelter that the "Associació per a la Berguedana Protecció dels Animals". Its chairman, Carme Pérez Castillo believes that this law "would be very good if before the other laws, such as chipping, or prohibiting the shooting, had been implemented" because many dogs that arrive at the shelter, can still not be identified.
...... call chip
As an example, are currently at the shelter just 3 dogs with chip out of 40th In this sense, said Carmen Perez, that the current ads that were made, have gone so far without results on the part of police.
The same happens with the law, which prohibits the suspension of domestic animals, another "pioneer-law that was never actually implemented," explained as the chairman of the shelter.
risk of massive launching of animals
One of the risks that can bring this law to protect the animals themselves is, abandonment by the owners who want to get rid of their animal. In this sense, informed the Mossos d'Esquadra [Catalan police] our newspaper Berguedà Actual "about three ads about abandoned animals that have been received in the last year. Notable is the number of ads in the local police station received in Berga, both by quantity and by regularity, and in most cases, the animals are found without a chip. In the same context
give the vets interviewed by this newspaper, that calls lately more and more people to report an abandoned animal, and to consult the Council. All agree, however, that will increase the spring and summer, even the number of abandoned animals, because then the "Christmas" too big and cumbersome. In almost all cases, those animals are then brought to the shelter.
The ASPCA was founded in 1991, when six animal loving people, the first shelter for animals in the district of Berga founded. The commitment was so great that some of them the animals at his house, is home to the club constitution was completed and one of them provided the land available on which the shelter was built.
.................................
The agreement, which is amended and extended each year, provides for annual grants from the various communities that are calculated on the basis of population. So as to control large Communities such as self-Berga 1000 € per year for the upkeep of the Tiereimes at, while smaller communities such as pay Fígols, only 6 € per year.
The financial situation is not encouraging. The contributions of the municipalities, the Provincial Council of Barcelona, \u200b\u200bthe Generalitat de Catalunya and the 230 members are not sufficient to meet the needs of the increasing number of animals each day must be supplied at the shelter.
If the final financial situation, does look not so good, can only follow that there is a lack of manpower. The shelter Berga has to feed every day, all animals, only two employees: the President himself and some aid, Meritxell Barniol, and not a single regular volunteers, and that in a country where it abounds in all areas of volunteers only pretending. Carme Pérez explained that "want to call and help many people", but only few really then. These are then usually after a short time no more, "because it is a hard and every day the same work". There
The role of volunteers
the moment there at the shelter two volunteers from Germany to help a few months at the shelter and learn the way English. They both see an opportunity to prevent the overcrowding of animal shelters, is to neuter the animals so that no unwanted Offspring produced.
Melina comes from the border town of Aachen and is already the eighth time in Berga. One of the biggest differences with Germany, she sees the importance of animal shelters. "If someone wants to take an animal, he is first screened to determine whether he fits the animal and can offer him a decent life." If the animal is then conveyed "by the shelter regularly conducted checks" to ensure this also. Melina has observed that almost everyone here can get an animal and not followed up [here is do I have to! So I did not say! I merely noted that this is not the capacity exists to do this! It should not sound as if the animal shelter squandered the animals! Grrr.]. Jennifer, who is from Frankfurt [NO, she is from Hamburg!] Thinks that the biggest difference is that in our country today can buy more animals in the business, which is illegal in Germany long ago.
Cooperation with Germany
The regular destination of the dogs and cats in the shelter Berga are Germany, Holland and Switzerland, because there are partner-animal protection groups, the animals give to their countries. Most of the animals is mediated thanks to these organizations - also old and sick animals get their chance - and up on the transport of all costs are covered. These shipments are held every 5-6 weeks. So one can say that the shelter provides mainly abroad, as can be here either at regional or national level provides many animals.
Carme Pérez explained that the situation in the animal shelters in countries like Germany very different. It tells of an animal shelter, which currently houses six dogs and 10 cats and 22 volunteers have come regularly to help. It
..........., there to "pay the cities and towns a lot of money" to the animal shelters, and nearly every large city has its own animal shelter.
"animals can no longer are simply put to sleep because they are annoying or do not work "
Although the law states that the euthanasia of pets forbids is just entered into force, lull the vets in Berga has long been no more animals without urgent reason one. Gonfaus Albert, a practicing veterinarian in Berga said that in the establishment where he works, animals are not euthanized "in the case of high aggression or severe disease."
The vet believes that the new law is not as bad as not now more "animals can be euthanized because they are annoying or do not do their job." Albert explains that Gonfaus he feels now legally protected and confirmed if he will ever be asked to sleep an animal ............
Josep Subirana, also a practicing veterinarian in Berga, remembers his part, not many cases where he was invited to sleep by its customers an animal. He believes that the law "is good", but "should go hand in hand with a castration campaign and more responsible." He also believes that not everyone is suited to take care of a pet, and there is no authority or control organisms that checks the welfare of pets. In several European countries such as England or Germany are, " are authorities, who look after the welfare of animals "[Freely translated, he probably means the Veterinary] The chairman of the shelter Berga said that the situation in these countries with ours is to be compared;. we" enjoy no protection from the authorities. Here is an abused dog with nothing to lose, "she concludes.
